Abhijeet Sawant (Marathi: अभिजीत सावंत) is an Indian singer, songwriter, music composer, television host, and actor born on 7 October 1981 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, into a Maharashtrian Dalit Buddhist family. His father, Shridhar Pandurang Sawant, was a school teacher, and his mother is Manisha Sawant. He has a sister named Saloni Raut. He grew up in Dadar, Mumbai, in a one-room house with a large joint family. He completed his Class 10 at IES Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya, Dadar (Marathi medium), then studied Commerce at Chetana's H.S. College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. He received professional vocal training from gurus Bhavdeep Jaipurwale and Raju Singh and was a regular singer at community Ganesh Chaturthi programmes. He entered Indian Idol Season 1 (Sony TV, 2004-05) and, after seven months of competition, was declared the winner on 5 March 2005, beating Amit Sana in the finale and winning a ₹1 crore Sony contract and a Skoda car. His debut album Aapka…Abhijeet Sawant (2005, Sony BMG) featured the commercially successful track 'Mohabbatein Lutaunga'. He subsequently participated in Jo Jeeta Wohi Super Star (Star Plus, 2008) where he finished first runner-up, and Asian Idol (2008) where he finished third. He co-hosted Indian Idol Season 5 with Hussain Kuwajerwala. He released three studio albums - Aapka… (2005), Junoon (2007), and Farida (2013) - and mentored contestants on Love Me India (And TV, 2018). He has also sung Bollywood and Marathi playback songs, appeared on Comedy Circus (2011) and Comedy Nights with Kapil (2015), and has performed extensively in live concerts and stage shows. He is married to Shilpa Edvankar (married 4 December 2007), who formerly worked with Jet Airways. They have two daughters, Sameera and Aahaana. In July 2024, he entered Bigg Boss Marathi Season 5 hosted by Riteish Deshmukh. His warmth, musical presence, and strong social bonds inside the house made him a fan favourite throughout the season. He finished as the first runner-up at the grand finale on 6 October 2024.
