Anup Purushottamdas Jalota (born 29 July 1953) is an Indian singer, musician, and actor, the foremost bhajan vocalist of his generation. Born in Nainital, Uttarakhand, he hails from Phagwara, Punjab, from the musical Sham Chaurasi gharana. His father, Purshottam Das Jalota, was a celebrated bhajan singer and himself a Padma Shri recipient. Anup received classical music training at Bhatkhande Music Institute in Lucknow and began his career as a chorus singer at All India Radio, also performing in Kishore Kumar's stage shows and being called 'Junior Kishore.' By 1998, he had surpassed Elvis Presley's record of 45 gold/platinum discs, amassing 58 discs of his own. He is estimated to have recorded over 1,200 bhajans, ghazals, and devotional songs in six languages. The Government of India conferred the Padma Shri on him in 2012. In September 2018, he entered Bigg Boss 12 alongside his then-girlfriend Jasleen Matharu — his 37-years-younger student — becoming one of the most discussed and controversial jodis of the season. He was evicted in week 6 after 41 days, finishing fifteenth.

His legendary contributions to Indian devotional music (bhajans and ghazals), earning the title 'Bhajan Samraat' (Emperor of Bhajans), the Padma Shri in 2012, and over 200 gold/platinum albums.
