Appani Sarath, real name Sarath Kumar, is a Malayalam and Tamil film actor born on 15 April 1992 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He began performing in professional dramas at age five, participating in the Thiruvananthapuram Kalamandiram Nataka Sangham and Shastra Sahitya Pareeksha Vedi street theatre. He completed a postgraduate degree in Drama from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady. His audition at campus led to his film debut in Lijo Jose Pellissery's Angamaly Diaries (2017), where his fierce portrayal of Appani Ravi earned him instant fame and the nickname 'Appani'. He went on to appear in Velipadinte Pusthakam (2017, with Mohanlal), Kaala (2018, with Rajinikanth), Sandakozhi 2 (2018), and the ZEE5 web series Auto Shankar (2019), where he played the title role of the infamous serial killer. He is married to Reshma Sarath (April 2017) and they have two children, with a third on the way at the time of Bigg Boss. He later founded the theatre group The Local Bundle in Kochi. In August 2025, he entered Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 7 as an original contestant and was evicted in week 5 after 34 days.
