Shilpa Shinde is an Indian actress and politician born on 28 August 1977 in Mumbai into a Maharashtrian family. Her father was an advocate and her mother a homemaker. She made her acting debut in 1999 in the negative role in the Star Plus soap opera Bhabhi and went on to appear in Chidiya Ghar and Miss India. She rose to nationwide fame as the comedic character Angoori Bhabhi in &TV's popular sitcom Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai! (2015–2016). She abruptly quit the show in March 2016, accusing the producers of mentally torturing her. Her exit and ongoing legal disputes with producer Vikas Gupta — who worked at the channel — became public and preceded their meeting in the Bigg Boss 11 house. In October 2017, she entered Bigg Boss Season 11 hosted by Salman Khan. Despite a highly contentious rivalry with Vikas Gupta, she won the season on 14 January 2018, with massive public support. In 2019, she joined the Indian National Congress party.
