Sudipta Chakraborty is an Indian actress, acting coach, casting director, anchor, and columnist born in Kolkata, West Bengal. She is the daughter of veteran Bengali theatre actor and film personality Biplab Ketan Chakraborty (who passed away in November 2018) and dancer Dipali Chakraborty. Her elder sisters are actresses Bidipta Chakraborty and Bidisha Chakraborty; Bidipta is married to filmmaker Birsa Dasgupta. Sudipta's first husband was actor Rajesh Sharma (m. 2005, separated 2009); she later married Abhishek Saha (m. 15 May 2014) and has one child. She completed her higher secondary education from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Fort William, and graduated with an Honours degree in English from IGNOU. She began her career through Bengali theatre - performing in productions including Baghu Manna, Bikele Bhorer Shorshe Phool, and Kacher Dewal - before transitioning to film. Her screen debut came with the Bengali film Sanghat, followed by Rituparno Ghosh's acclaimed Bariwali (2000), in which she played the spirited maidservant Malati. The role earned her the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress (Silver Lotus) and the BFJA Best Supporting Actress award (2001), making her one of the most critically validated actresses of her generation. She subsequently appeared in films including Kaalpurush (2005), Open Tee Bioscope (2015), Rajkahini (2015), Dhananjay (2018, WBFJA Best Actress in Negative Role), Uronchondi (2019, WBFJA Best Actress), The Elder Son (2019), and many others. She has also worked as a newsreader and received the Kalakar Award (2000) for the bulletin Khas Khobor. She entered Bigg Boss Bangla Season 1 in June 2013 as one of the original contestants, was evicted mid-season, but dramatically re-entered the house on Day 48 (Week 7). She finished in 4th place in the grand finale on 14 September 2013.
