Yugendran Vasudevan (யுகேந்திரன் வாசுதேவன்), affectionately called Yugi, is an Indian Singaporean playback singer, actor, host, music director, and media producer born on 20 December 1976 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His father, Malaysia Vasudevan (1947–2011), was one of Tamil cinema's most beloved playback singers of Malaysian origin. His mother is Usha Vasudevan, and he has two sisters, Pavithra and Prashanthini (herself a renowned Tamil playback singer). He studied at Presidency College, Chennai, and later did a Diploma in Film & Television Production at the Singapore Media Academy (2015–2016). He married Hayma Malini, a Singaporean Tamil radio host he met at the 1999 launch of Sri Lanka's Tamil radio station Swarna Oli; they have three sons. He began his musical journey as a mridangist at age 10, performing his first solo recital accompanied by M.S. Balamurali Krishna and Ilaiyaraaja. His playback singing debut was with Senthoora Poove from Uzhavan Magan (1987). He has since sung hundreds of songs in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, working with Ilaiyaraaja, A.R. Rahman, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Deva, and Srikanth Deva. As an actor, he debuted in Poovellam Un Vasam (2001, Ajith–Jyothika) and went on to appear in Thirupaachi (2005), Amirtham (2006), and the Singaporean film Kathalaanain (2012). He has hosted musical programmes on Jaya TV, Sun TV, and Vijay TV, and founded Rambutan Productions (India) and Rambutan Media Works (Singapore), producing shows for multiple countries. He is survived by his father's legendary legacy through his own 40-year career. In October 2023, he entered Bigg Boss Tamil Season 7 as one of the original contestants and was evicted in Week 4, finishing twenty-second overall.
