Bio

Abhijit Burman, affectionately known as 'Pota', is an Indian rock singer and one of the lead vocalists of the iconic Bengali rock band Cactus, based in Kolkata, West Bengal. He joined Cactus - one of India's first professional Bangla rock bands, formed in 1992 - and became closely identified with the band's early sound, which drew from deep blues, psychedelic rock, and later folk fusion. The band's self-titled debut album (1999, His Master's Voice) is widely considered a landmark in Bengali popular music, establishing the viability of rock music in the Bengali language. With Pota as one of the lead vocalists, the band went on to release Rajar Raja (2004), which incorporated hard rock, funk rock, and folk rock, and Tuccho (2008), which moved toward harder rock. He is also recognized for Cactus's musical contribution to the Bengali film Nil Nirjane (2002), with the song 'Mon' from the soundtrack becoming a crowd favourite. He provided playback for the celebrated Goutam Ghosh film Moner Manush (2010), based on the life of Sunil Gangopadhyay - particularly the soulful song 'Ar Amare Marish Ne Maa', which introduced Lalon Fakir's music to mainstream Bengali cinema audiences. He departed from Cactus in 2017 due to creative differences. He entered Bigg Boss Bangla Season 1 in June 2013 and was evicted in Week 12, finishing 6th overall.
