Gulabo Sapera (also known as Gulabo or Dhanvantri) is an Indian Kalbelia folk dancer born in 1973 in Rajasthan, into the nomadic Kalbeliya community — a historically marginalised community of snake charmers in Rajasthan. She was the seventh child of her parents. In an extraordinary survival story she shared on Bigg Boss, she revealed that she was buried alive immediately after her birth — a practice occasionally used against girl children in certain rural communities — and was rescued by her mother and aunt. She was raised within the Kalbeliya tradition, learning the sinuous, snake-like Kalbelia dance form from childhood. She became the public face of Kalbelia, transforming what was an obscure community folk art form into a globally recognised cultural treasure. She has performed in over 45 countries, appearing at prestigious platforms including the Edinburgh International Festival and the Lincoln Center Festival in New York, and has given performances for various heads of state. Her advocacy and visibility contributed directly to UNESCO adding Kalbelia dance and songs of Rajasthan to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. In 2016, she received the Padma Shri — India's fourth-highest civilian honour — from the President of India for her contributions to art and culture. She also received the Bharat Gaurav Award (2021) and the Genius Indian Achiever's Award (2025). She is married to Sohan Nath. In October 2011, she entered Bigg Boss 5 on Colors TV as Contestant No. 12. She was eliminated in Week 2 (Day 13), finishing sixteenth.
