Karate Kalyani (born Padaala Kalyani; 31 October 1977 in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh) is an Indian actress, comedian, harikatha exponent, and classical singer who works predominantly in Telugu cinema and television. She hails from the Yaadava community of Uttarandhra. Her father, Padaala Ramdas, was a renowned mridangam and tabla artist at All India Radio, and her mother, Vijaya Lakshmi, was a music teacher; she has two brothers. She completed her schooling at Kalyananda Bharathi High School, Vizianagaram, and her graduation at Women's College, Vizianagaram. She is a trained classical singer, a certified yoga practitioner, and holds a black belt in Karate, winning national gold medals at competitions in Goa, Bhubaneswar, and Chandigarh. She debuted in Telugu films with Vechivunta (2001) and built a career playing comedic and character roles across many Telugu films including Maa Alludu Very Good (2003), Chatrapathi (2005), Krishna (2008), Mirapakay (2011), Yevade Subramanyam (2015), Guntur Talkies (2016), Goutham Nanda (2017), and Raja the Great (2017). She also appeared in serials including Goranta Deepam (2013), Madhumasam (2019), and Muthyala Muggu (2019). She founded Sri Adibatla Sri Kala Peetam to promote Harikatha - the ancient Telugu narrative art form of storytelling on religious themes - and in June 2015 performed Harikatha continuously for 114 hours, 45 minutes, and 55 seconds at Siddhartha Nagar Community Hall, Hyderabad, entering the Limca Book of Records. She was married twice - her second marriage to lyricist Kasarla Shyam produced a son, Chatan Sai Raman. She was arrested during a Hyderabad police raid at a club in 2018 for alleged gambling. In 2020, Karate Kalyani participated in Bigg Boss Telugu Season 4. She was evicted in Week 2 (Day 13), finishing eighteenth overall.
