Rudranil Ghosh is an Indian actor, director, screenwriter, and BJP politician born on 6 January 1973 in Howrah, West Bengal. His father, Rabindranath Ghosh, was an artist, and his mother is Shabnam Ghosh. He attended Santragachi Kedarnath Institution, Howrah, under the West Bengal State Board, and graduated from Narasinha Dutt College, Howrah, affiliated with the University of Calcutta, in 1995. He is also known by the nickname 'Rudroo' among friends. He began his career in Bengali television and telefilms, making his debut in television serials Din Pratidin and Noder Chand (2005) before breaking into film with Kantatar (2005, dir. Bappaditya Bandopadhyay), for which he won the Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award for Best Supporting Actor alongside a win for Refugee. He went on to appear in over 100 Bengali and Hindi films, including Chirodini Tumi Je Amar (2008), The Japanese Wife (2010, dir. Aparna Sen), Chaplin (2011), Kahaani (2012, dir. Sujoy Ghosh), Rajkahini (2015), Kelor Kirti (2016), Shah Jahan Regency (2019), Vinci Da (2019, which he also co-wrote), and Satyanweshi Byomkesh (2019). He directed the film Shunyo (2013) and has written screenplays for several films including Jiyo Kaka (2011) and Vinci Da. In politics, he joined the All India Trinamool Congress in 2011 and was associated with it for a decade before switching to BJP ahead of the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections, contesting (unsuccessfully) from Bhabanipur. He entered Bigg Boss Bangla Season 1 in June 2013, where his outspoken personality and frequent conflicts made him one of the season's most controversial figures, finishing as runner-up on 14 September 2013.
