Soniya Akula (సోనియా అకుల) is an Indian actress born on 31 May 2000 in Gajulapally Village, Manthani Mandal, Peddapalli district, Telangana. Her parents are Chakrapani Akula and Malleshwari Akula. She grew up in Agra before returning to Telangana, completed her schooling in her village, earned a B.Tech in Computer Science from Bhojreddy Engineering College, Hyderabad, and also holds an LLB from Padala Rama Reddy Law College. She began her acting career in 2019 with the Telugu historical film George Reddy - based on the life of the legendary Osmania University student leader and boxer - playing George's younger sister. The following year she appeared in Ram Gopal Varma's Coronavirus (2020) as Shanthi. In 2022, she took on the lead role of Aasha in Aasha Encounter (a docu-drama based on the Hyderabad veterinarian rape-and-murder case), earning significant praise. She also appeared in Vyooham as Nirmala Dixit and had a brief role in the serial Jhansi. In 2025, she starred as Surekha in Artiste. In September 2024, she entered Bigg Boss Telugu Season 8 from Day 1 as the sixth contestant. She was evicted on Day 27 (Week 4), finishing nineteenth overall. After leaving the show, she married her long-time boyfriend Yashpal, with the wedding attended by several Bigg Boss 8 cast members.
