Devoleena Bhattacharjee (born 22 August 1985 in Sivasagar, Assam) is an Indian television actress and trained Bharatanatyam dancer from a Bengali Brahmin family. She lost her father at a young age and was raised by her mother alongside her younger brother in Sivasagar. She attended Godhula Brown Memorial English High School in Sivasagar and completed a Commerce degree from NIFT, New Delhi, before working as a jewellery designer at Gili India Ltd. in Mumbai. Her passion for performance — she had learned classical music since age 6 and won the Best Actress award for the play Maya — led her to audition for Dance India Dance Season 2 (2013) before landing her breakthrough: replacing Giaa Manek as Gopi Ahem Modi in Star Plus's Saath Nibhaana Saathiya (2012–2017). Initially facing audience resistance, she gradually won over viewers and became inseparably associated with the role of 'Gopi Bahu', earning multiple awards. She subsequently appeared in Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2 (2020). She participated in Bigg Boss 13 (2019), entered Bigg Boss 14 (2021) as a proxy/replacement for the voluntarily exiting Eijaz Khan in Week 11, and participated in Bigg Boss 15 (2021–22). She underwent backbone surgery in 2013 after an on-set injury. She married Shanwaz Shaikh in December 2022; they have a son named Joy.
