Rimi Sen (रिमी सेन), born Subhamitra Sen on 21 September 1981 in Calcutta (Kolkata), West Bengal, is a former Indian film actress and producer who trained in Odissi dance under Guru Aloka Kanungo. She completed her schooling at Bidya Bharati Girls' High School, Kolkata (1998), and her Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calcutta. Since childhood she dreamed of acting; after graduation she convinced her mother to accompany her to Mumbai, where she did not receive initial support from her family except for her grandfather. Her break came through a Coca-Cola advertisement with Aamir Khan that attracted the attention of Bollywood directors. She made her Telugu film debut in Nee Thodu Kavali (2002) before her blockbuster Bollywood debut in Priyadarshan's Hungama (2003, as Anjali Patekar, opposite Akshaye Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, and Paresh Rawal) — earning Filmfare, IIFA, Stardust, and Screen Award nominations for Best Female Debut and winning the Anandalok Puraskar for Best Debut Actress. She followed with Baghban (2003), Dhoom (2004), Garam Masala (2005), Phir Hera Pheri (2006), Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006), Deewane Huye Paagal (2006), Johnny Gaddaar (2007), De Taali (2008), and Thank You (2011), among others. She also appeared in Bengali films. Feeling typecast and dissatisfied with the quality of female roles, she effectively retired from acting around age 30 and transitioned to production, producing the critically acclaimed National Award-winning sports biopic Budhia Singh: Born to Run (2016). In October 2015, she entered Bigg Boss 9 and earned widespread criticism for her apparent disinterest in tasks and passive gameplay. She was evicted in Week 7 (Day 50), finishing thirteenth. She subsequently relocated to Dubai as a luxury real estate agent.
