
Ramya NSK (full name: Ramya) is an Indian playback singer and RJ born on 6 October 1987 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She is the granddaughter of legendary Tamil comedian-actor N.S. Krishnan (popularly known as 'Kalaivanar') and actress-singer T.A. Mathuram (paternal grandparents), and of prominent Tamil actor-comedian K.R. Ramasamy (maternal grandfather). Her father is a businessman and her mother Selvi S is a homemaker. She studied at A.M.M. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai, and graduated in Visual Communication from Women's Christian College, Chennai. She subsequently joined Radio City, Chennai, working as a music manager for five years. She trained in Carnatic music (under Sangita Kalanidhi and T.M. Thiagarajan), Western music, and was a member of the Emmanuel Methodist Church choir for eight years. She began her playback career in 2006 with the Malayalam song As We All Know from Notebook. Her signature hit came with Satru Munbu from Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012), for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer - Tamil (2013), Vijay Award (2013), and Times Award (2013). She has since sung 400+ songs in five languages. She also acted in Tharai Thappattai (2016). In 2017, she briefly married Chennai-based Arjun; they divorced later that year. She subsequently married Tamil actor Sathya SK (September 2019) and gave birth to a son in July 2020. In 2018, she participated in Bigg Boss Tamil Season 2 and was evicted in Week 5, finishing 14th.
