Akhil Marar (born 7 September 1988 in Kottarakkara, Kollam district, Kerala) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, author, and actor who works in Malayalam cinema. The son of Rajendran Pillai and Ammini Amma, he completed his schooling at C.F.H.S. Kottiyam and S.V.M.M.H.S.S., Vendar, before earning a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Fatima Mata National College, Kollam. He is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. After graduating, he worked as a medical representative and later as an area manager before quitting to pursue his dreams. He opened a juice kiosk named 'Alchemist' (inspired by Paulo Coelho's novel) at Kottathala, Kollam, and later worked as an agriculturalist and assistant director before making his feature directorial debut. His debut film Oru Thathvika Avalokanam (2021), a political satire he also wrote, starring Joju George, Aju Varghese, and Abhirami, won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Debut Director. He has also published a book titled Avasheshippukal. In March 2023, Akhil participated in Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 5. His strategic acumen, humour, and genuine personality made him the most dominant contestant of the season. He won the title on 2 July 2023, receiving a cash prize of ₹50 lakh and a new Maruti Suzuki car from host Mohanlal. He is married to Rajalekshmi Akhil and has two daughters, Parkrithi and Prarthana.
