Bio
Aniyan Midhun (born Midhun Mohan; 18 June 1992 in Nattika, Thrissur district, Kerala) is an Indian Wushu practitioner and martial arts coach from a fishing and farming family. His father Mohan worked as a fisherman, and his mother's name is Ponnamma; he grew up spending most of his childhood on the beach, earning him the nickname 'Son of the Arabian Sea'. He attended Bharath Vidya Mandir English School, Valapad, and V.P.M.S.N.D.P. Higher Secondary School, Kazhimbram, before earning a B.Sc. in Multimedia from ICAT Design and Media College, Bangalore. He began with Karate in Class 5, progressed to kickboxing, and started learning Wushu in Class 7, training his technique on the beach. He holds a black belt in both Karate and kickboxing. In 2010 he shifted to Kashmir to train professionally under Dronacharya Award winner and Indian Wushu Head Coach Kuldeep Kumar Handoo, and later joined Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council. He became the first South Indian to represent India in International Wushu, set a world record for the fastest knockout in a match against Pakistan in 2021, won gold at the South Asian Wushu Championship 2021, and won gold at the World Pro Wushu Sanda Fight 2022 in Thailand. He was honoured with the Human Rights Nobel Award by the Global Human Rights Trust in 2022. He trains approximately 70 students in his hometown, several of whom have won national-level medals. In March 2023, Aniyan participated in Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 5. He was evicted in Week 13 (Day 90), finishing ninth overall.
Being the first South Indian to represent India in International Wushu; winning the gold medal at the South Asian Wushu Championship 2021 (70 kg category); setting a world record for the fastest knockout in a match against Pakistan in 2021; being nicknamed 'Son of the Arabian Sea'.
