Fathima Babu (born 6 August 1968 in Puducherry) is an Indian actress, former newsreader, and television personality who works primarily in Tamil-language media. Born into a Malayali Muslim family in Puducherry, she holds a degree in journalism from Bharathidasan Government College for Women, Puducherry. She converted to Hinduism after marrying her husband A.K. Babu, a businessman she met while working at Indian Oil Corporation; the couple has been married since 1989 and have two sons. She began her career as a newsreader with DD Podhigai, the Tamil channel of Doordarshan, in the late 1980s, and later also worked for Jaya TV - making her one of the most recognisable news faces in Tamil Nadu for over two decades. Her film debut came with K. Balachander's feminist drama Kalki (1996), and she went on to appear in Tamil films including Ulavuthurai (1998), Ninaivirukkum Varai (1999), Mugavaree (2000), and Minnale (2001), as well as Malayalam and Telugu productions. She also founded her own drama group, Fab's Theatre, with K. Balachander's guidance, and briefly served as a spokesperson for the AIADMK party. In 2019, Fathima Babu participated in Bigg Boss Tamil Season 3 as its most senior contestant, but was the first to be evicted, leaving the house on Day 13.
