Mohan Vaidya (born 29 November 1959 in Purasawalkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu) is a Carnatic singer, violinist, actor, and television host. He comes from an illustrious musical family: his father K.M. Vaidyanathan was a celebrated Ghatam Vidwan, his mother Vasantha Vaidyanathan was a vocalist, and his uncle G. Ramanathan was a noted Tamil film music composer. His younger brother is the acclaimed veena maestro Rajhesh Vaidhya. Unusually, Mohan's voice did not break until his late 20s, earning him the childhood nickname 'Mayil' (peacock) for his distinctly feminine vocal quality. He trained on violin under Radha Sundaresan and received vocal lessons from gurus including Tiruvavur Sethuraman, K.C. Thyagarajan, and Anayampati Ganesan. He relocated to Delhi, where he sang for the troupes of Saroja Vaidyanathan, Swapna Sundari, Leela Samson, and Yamini Krishnamurthy. In the early 1990s he moved back to Chennai, hosting the Carnatic music quiz show Ragam Sangeetham on Raj TV. He holds a Diploma in Music from Madras Carnatic College and is an expert in Bharatanatyam and Odissi. He has been honoured by former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and holds awards from multiple institutions. As an actor, he has appeared in Tamil films including Sethu (1999) and Anniyan (2005). He owns the Anusham Academy in Chennai and Sai Sishya music schools in Coimbatore and Tiruppur. In 2019, he participated in Bigg Boss Tamil Season 3 and was evicted in week 4 after 27 days.
