Bio
Shashi Kumar is an Indian farmer, folk dancer, and agriculture activist born on 4 January 1992 in Chikkaballapura district, Karnataka. He completed his M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad - an institution that shaped his progressive approach to farming. He has been a passionate advocate for modernising agricultural practices among rural Karnataka youth, using technology to increase crop yields and reduce dependence on monsoons. Alongside his farming career, he is a trained performer of Karnataka's traditional folk dance forms - Dollu Kunita (the drum dance), Veeragaase (the warrior dance), and Kamsale (a devotional percussion dance) - performing at cultural events and village festivals across the region. He is married to Swathi. In October 2018, he entered Bigg Boss Kannada Season 6 hosted by Kiccha Sudeep on Colors Kannada as a commoner contestant - one of nine commoners selected through online auditions on the Voot platform. Despite having no entertainment industry background, his hard work during tasks, composed personality, and strong connection with the audience consistently placed him at the top of public voting charts. He survived several high-stakes nomination weeks and was declared the winner on 27 January 2019, receiving the trophy and a cash prize of ₹50 lakh. At the winning ceremony, he announced his intention to use the prize money to educate farmers on the use of technology for better agricultural yields. He subsequently appeared in the Kannada film Mehabooba.
