Devoleena Bhattacharjee is an Indian actress and dancer born on 22 August 1989 in Silchar, Assam, into a Bengali Hindu family. Her father worked in the government service; her mother is a homemaker. She has a younger brother. She completed her schooling in Silchar and subsequently trained in Sattriya (Assam's classical dance), Bihu (traditional Assamese folk dance), Bharatanatyam, and Western dance at the prestigious Indian School of Dance in Guwahati. She relocated to Mumbai to pursue an acting career. Her television debut was in the Star Plus fiction drama Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (2010). She rose to national recognition through Saath Nibhaana Saathiya (Star Plus, 2010–17), in which she played Gopi Bahu — a simple, compassionate woman whose values defined one of Indian TV's most beloved daily soap characters. She reprised the role in Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2 (Star Plus, 2020–21). She participated in Bigg Boss 12 (2018) as a connection and appeared in Khatron Ke Khiladi Made in India (2020). In September 2019, she entered Bigg Boss 13 on Colors TV as an original contestant. After 56 days, she walked out of the house on Day 56 due to a serious back injury, later re-entering on Day 39 (the data records a re-entry on Day 39). She subsequently served as the proxy for Eijaz Khan in Bigg Boss 14 (2020). She married Shanwaz Shaikh in 2022. She finished thirteenth overall in BB13.
