Chinnaponnu (also credited as Chinna Ponnu or Chinnaponnu Kumar) is an Indian folk and playback singer born in Suranam village, Sivagangai district, Tamil Nadu. She began performing in temple festivals and churches at age 13, quickly drawing the attention of folk music researcher and Communist Party member K.A. Gunasekaran, who helped promote her across Tamil Nadu. She married composer and percussionist Selva Kumar in 1990, and the couple has since performed together extensively across temple festivals and stage shows. Her film playback career began with the devotional song Vazhthuren Vazhthuren (sometimes cited as 'Annanoda Paatu') in the Rajinikanth-Jyothika blockbuster Chandramukhi (2005). Her most iconic recording is Nakku Mukka from Kadhalil Vizhundhen (2008), which earned her the Kannadasan Award for Best Folk Singer in Tamil Film. She also contributed to the A.R. Rahman-composed theme of the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 and has released numerous folk cassettes and recordings over the decades. In October 2021, she entered Bigg Boss Tamil Season 5. She was eliminated in Week 4 (Day 27), finishing eighteenth.
