Isaivani
Bio
Isaivani is an Indian gaana and playback singer born on 1 January 1996 in Royapuram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to Sivakumar D (a self-taught keyboardist) and Selvi. Growing up in a music-immersed household in Chennai's working-class Royapuram neighbourhood, she began performing alongside her father at age six, accumulating approximately 10,000 live shows across Chennai slums, Ennore, and Pondicherry by 2018. In 2017, she was invited by gaana musician Sabesh Solomon to audition for The Casteless Collective, a band formed by filmmaker Pa. Ranjith and music composer Tenma to give voice to Dalit and marginalised communities through music. Isaivani became one of the first professional female gaana singers in the world by joining the band. With them she has released politically impactful music including Beef Song (2018), a protest against Dalit lynchings, and I'm Sorry Ayyappa (2019) on the Sabarimala temple controversy. Her work with The Casteless Collective and solo gaana recordings led to her being named on the BBC 100 Women 2020 list. In October 2021, she entered Bigg Boss Tamil Season 5. She was eliminated in Week 7 (Day 48), finishing fifteenth. She is married to Satheesh.
