Namitha (full name Namitha Vankawala) is an Indian actress, model, and politician born on 10 May 1981 in Surat, Gujarat. She holds a degree in arts and was crowned Miss Surat before finishing as a Runner-Up at Femina Miss India 2000, representing India at the Miss Asia Pacific pageant in Seoul. She began her entertainment career as a model before transitioning to Tamil and Telugu cinema. She made her Tamil film debut in Aai (2004) and achieved her biggest commercial success in the blockbuster Azhagiya Tamil Magan (2007, dir. Boopathy Pandian, starring Vijay), in which she played the lead heroine. She also appeared in the stylish action film Billa (2007, a Tamil remake of Don starring Ajith), Jai (2009), and several Telugu films. She is married to Veerendra Chowdhary and is an active member of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, serving as a state executive member. In June 2017, she entered Bigg Boss Tamil Season 1 as one of the original contestants. She was evicted in Week 4 after 27 days, finishing 14th overall.
