He is the son of legendary Indian wrestler and actor Dara Singh (Rustam-e-Hind, and the original Hanuman in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan) and his second wife Surjit Kaur. He attended St. Mary's School, Mumbai, and completed his education in the city. He was previously married to actress Farah Naaz (1996–2002) and then married Dina Umarova in 2006; they have two children. He made his film debut in Karan (1994) and appeared in supporting and comic roles in Punjabi and Hindi films over two decades, including notable appearances in Partner (2007, alongside Salman Khan) and Kambakkht Ishq (2009). He also appeared in reality shows including Master Chef India 2, Comedy Circus, and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. In October 2009, he entered Bigg Boss Season 3, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. On Day 68 he was evicted by housemates, but then re-entered the house on Day 69 as part of a twist. He won the grand finale on 26 December 2009, receiving a Chevrolet Cruze car (worth approx. ₹17 lakh) and being named the most stylish and bold contestant of the season — his housemates had earlier given him the title 'Bade Dil Wala'.
