Aarya Babbar (born Sajjad Babbar, 24 May 1981 in Mumbai, Maharashtra) is an Indian film actor who works predominantly in Hindi and Punjabi cinema. He is the son of veteran film actor and politician Raj Babbar and theatre actress and director Nadira Babbar (née Zaheer), and the elder half-brother of the late actor Prateik Babbar. His sister Juhi Babbar Soni is also an actress, married to actor Anup Soni. His maternal grandfather was the celebrated communist activist Sajjad Zaheer — a legacy that informed his original birth name. He made his Bollywood debut in Ab Ke Baras (2002, dir. Raj Kanwar) and went on to appear in Guru (2007, dir. Mani Ratnam), Tees Maar Khan (2010), Jatts in Golmaal (2013, a major Punjabi hit), Azaan (2011), Bangistan (2015), and various other Hindi and Punjabi productions. He married Jasmine Puri in a traditional Sikh wedding ceremony on 22 February 2016. In September 2014, he entered Bigg Boss Season 8 as one of the original contestants. A season-long controversy involved his claim that he had previously dated co-contestant Minissha Lamba — which she emphatically denied. He was evicted in Week 8 (Day 56), finishing 13th overall.
