Maria Juliana (known simply as Juliana or Julie) is a Tamil actress and social activist from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. A qualified nurse by training, she came to national prominence in January 2017 when she appeared on television as one of the vocal, fearless participants in the massive Jallikattu protests at Marina Beach, Chennai - a movement to lift the ban on the traditional Tamil bull-taming sport. Her candid interviews and bold on-camera presence during the protest made her a recognisable face and social media personality. Her public profile from the protests led to her being selected as one of three non-celebrity contestants (alongside Arav and Raiza Wilson) on Bigg Boss Tamil Season 1, which premiered in June 2017. Her candid, outspoken personality made her a controversial but widely discussed figure in the house. She was evicted in Week 6 after 41 days, finishing 12th overall. She subsequently appeared in the Bigg Boss Ultimate Season 1 (2022). She has also dabbled in acting through short films and Tamil productions following her Bigg Boss stint.
