Bio
Diya Sana (real name Sajna Shajahan) is an Indian transgender activist, casting coordinator, dubbing artist, and voice-over artist born on 4 April 1992 in Ernakulam, Kerala, into a Muslim middle-class family. Her father is Shajahan and her mother is Shamna Shajahan. She was born in Ernakulam but raised in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She attended Adarsh Senior Secondary School in Chennai and pursued higher education at Crescent Engineering College, Vandalur, Tamil Nadu, and RLV College of Music and Fine Arts, Tripunithura, Kerala. She has been active in social advocacy since a young age and is a member of the Transgender District Justice Committee, Thiruvananthapuram. She participated in the 'Kiss of Love' protest in Kannur in 2014/2015, a public movement against moral policing in Kerala. In March 2018, she gained major national attention through the 'Bare Chest Campaign' - conducted on social media alongside model Rehana Fathima - which challenged gendered norms around the human body and generated significant public debate. She also works as a casting coordinator at model management companies and as a dubbing and voice-over artist. In June 2018, she entered Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 1, the first trans-identifying contestant in the show's inaugural season. She was eliminated in Week 6 (Day 41), finishing thirteenth. She has described the experience as life-changing.
Her leadership of transgender and LGBTQ rights campaigns in Kerala; her participation in the 'Kiss of Love' protest in Kannur (2015); the landmark 'Bare Chest Campaign' (2018) conducted with model Rehana Fathima, which challenged societal norms and sparked widespread national debate; her membership of the Transgender District Justice Committee, Thiruvananthapuram; finishing thirteenth in Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 1 (2018).
